Biography
We Ghosts blend elements of pop, blues, jazz, soul, reggae and rock in a refreshing and original way. Fronted by the song writing team of Swedish singer/guitarist J.J.Woodall and English singer/multi-instrumentalist John Christopher, they divide their time between Scandinavia, the U.K, France and Holland and have also played as far afield as the U.S.A. and Australia.
Over the last decade We Ghosts have performed hundreds of gigs a year and make for a splendid live show worthy of any stage. Their atmospheric, eerie and inventive recordings have been used in soundtracks as well having received frequent international airplay and critical acclaim.
We Ghosts emerged from Gothenburg, Sweden, swiftly making their mark by recording and performing across Scandinavia and England. Their debut EP, released in 2004, set the stage for their growing influence. Over the years, they have become a prominent presence in the U.K., captivating audiences at a variety of venues and festivals.
In 2014, a collaboration with Stockholm Trance DJ Rich Edwards resulted in the global hit “Sweetest Addiction.” This track, which sampled a We Ghosts demo hook, introduced millions to Jen’s crystal-clear vocals and John’s song-writing prowess. The origional version of song was later re-recorded and featured on their 2023 album, Derailed.
By 2017, We Ghosts had expanded their reach to France and the Netherlands. Despite the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, which led to cancelled gigs and tours, the duo turned adversity into opportunity. They focused on recording and have been releasing a monthly single via their Patreon page since 2021.
Initially preferring to sell CDs and albums through their website, the pandemic also prompted a collaboration with Stockholm-based label COMEDIA. Since 2022, this partnership has yielded two albums and several singles.

We Ghosts Are...
Jenny Woodall, also known as J.J. Woodall, is the lead singer, songwriter, producer, and rhythm guitarist of We Ghosts. Her crystal-clear, stunning vocal delivery is one of the band’s most compelling elements, complemented by her tight rhythm guitar work, which forms the core of their captivating live performances.
Born in Gothenburg, Sweden, Jen grew up in an artistic family, the daughter of a film director and an actress. She began singing early in life and, at the age of 11, started taking lessons from vocal coach and former opera singer Monica Janner. At just 15, Jenny recorded her first demo, “Poisoned Sleep.” Her music career took off in earnest in 2003 when she met John Christopher in a Gothenburg studio while recording a soundtrack album. They soon began writing, performing, and recording together, laying the foundation for We Ghosts.

John Christopher has been playing music professionally since leaving school. Initially training as an actor in London, he was drawn to Southern France by a major recording deal. There, he began touring Europe as a singer, songwriter, and guitarist, eventually settling in Sweden. After a brief stint of fame fronting his own band, he met Jen in a Gothenburg studio. Impressed by her voice, he proposed a collaboration, which evolved into the band “We Ghosts,” named after a song that had been a staple of his repertoire for years.
John is proficient in multiple instruments, but his remarkable guitar work has become a signature element of the band’s sound, blending jazz, pop, folk, and rock in a unique way. He also sings harmonies with Jen and takes the lead vocal on several songs. His guitar influences include Nick Drake, Django Reinhardt, and Ry Cooder.

We Ghosts: A Journey Through Collaboration and Creativity
We Ghosts have built a rich tapestry of sound and success through a dedicated team of collaborators.
At the heart of their creative process is long-standing co-producer and musician Richard Westlake, who has been integral to the band’s evolution since 2007. His contributions span most of their discography, including notable releases such as 'No Time For Goodbye' (EP), 'Things That Go Bump In The Night', 'Almost Alone', 'Decade', 'Blue Wave', 'The Borderline EP', 'Derailed', 'Idle Hands' and continues to work on their latest recordings.
The band’s production team also features other distinguished names. David Kirchhoff co-produced the 2018 album 'The Ragtime Infantry', while Martin Carlberg has lent his production expertise to several tracks, including 'Borderline', 'Ship Goes Down', and 'Fool Shall Be King'.
We Ghosts’ live and recorded performances are further enriched by a roster of talented musicians.
Derek Chai on bass has been a staple of their live line-up in the UK and features prominently on 'The Ragtime Infantry', 'The Borderline EP' and 'Derailed'. Neil Stockley has frequently joined the band on Cajon and vocals during their tours in England.
Since 2017, David Teboul on drums has been a vital part of the band’s tours in France, Sweden, and the UK, as well as their recordings, including 'The Borderline EP', 'Derailed', 'Idle Hands', and 'Herbie’s Parrots'. He was later joined by Christophe Michaud on bass for the French touring band, who also contributed to several recordings, including 'Herbie’s Parrot's, a track featured in the 2024 Swedish motion picture 'Love Game'.
An essential component of We Ghosts is Joakim Holmberg, the audio-visual mastermind behind the band’s visual identity. Since 2013, Joakim has been the principal photographer and music video creator, producing acclaimed works such as the animated video for 'Borderline' and the stunning video for 'Ship Goes Down'.
Recently, We Ghosts have embarked on a new creative journey with English songwriter, singer, multi-instrumentalist, and producer Johnny Quadrio. Their collaboration has already borne fruit with the single 'Sweetest Addiction', and another track, 'Let Out The Hurt', both featured on the album 'Derailed'.
We Ghosts continue to push the boundaries of their music, driven by a collective spirit of innovation and collaboration that resonates through every note and performance.
